I am pleased to finally post the entirety of my essay “Early CTI: The A&M Years (1967-70)” online. This project began about eight years ago as a set of liner notes to a CD box set that unfortunately never happened. There were many problems along the way, but I just kept writing as though this thing was going to become a reality.
As the title indicates, the monograph-length piece – which amounts to well over 100 pages of text – covers the origins, the ups and the downs and the end of Creed Taylor’s three-year relationship with Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss’ A&M Records label.

While the whole history of the A&M/CTI partnership is considered, I cover each of the key players and all thirty-some records in the series in depth – with full discographical information for each record as well.
