Note: (1) Original
CBS-TV broadcast on September 29, 1966. Series broadcast from
September 15, 1966, to January 19, 1967. (2) The episode
noted above was intended as the pilot episode, however executive
producer Norman Felton was dissatisfied with Schifrin's score
and the show was broadcast third in its short 16-show history.
Composer Robert Drasnin also added four short cues to re-edited
sequences of this episode. Additionally, Schifrin arranged and
conducted brief performances of Wagner's "Die Meistersinger" and
Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony for this particular episode (which
involved smuggling the Paris Symphony Orchestra out of France
during World War II). (3)Executive producer Norman
Felton's dissatisfaction with Schifrin's music caused him to
bring in composer Jerry Goldsmith to compose the show's main
theme. (4) One of the themes
created for this show, titled "Operation Fuse, Part I" above, evolved into
the theme used for "The
Plot," the secondarily dominant theme for the
MISSION:
IMPOSSIBLE series. (5) Schifrin's "Jericho" theme
(from "Upbeat And Underground") was adapted by Schifrin as the
Prologue to his cantata,
THE
RISE AND FALL OF THE THIRD REICH (thanks to Leonidas
Kouvaris). (6) The "Alternate Main Title" was
also used by Schifrin as a theme in the score to
THE PRESIDENT'S ANALYST
and as "House Painter March" in
VOYAGE OF THE DAMNED
(thanks to Leonidas
Kouvaris).
